Heads Up, Peyt

Here we are, we’re 3 weeks into the season, and we’re talking about an idiot coin toss that Peyton Manning’s whining about. What’s the world coming to?? Kam Chancellor has responded to 18 getting passive aggressive about some loose change costing Denver that overtime game. “Why talk about overtime rules being fair now? … Stop the offense and you don’t complain.”

They couldn’t. So there’s some crying going on. And the reason we’re talking about it now is the game’s most famous player was still complaining about it days later.  After never touching the ball in OT, Manning said that the overtime rules put a premium on the coin toss.  Right, they also put a premium on tackling. And covering. And containing. And your guys did none of the above.

They’ve already changed the overtime rules once. You can’t just get a couple first downs and kick a field goal to win anymore. But Seattle didn’t’ do that. They got 6 first downs and 6 points. They didn’t drive 25 yards, they drove 80. What do you want them to do, Peyt lose the coin toss altogether and have a jump ball? Would rock, paper, scissors be better? Have the ref think of a number in his head? Catch a tiger by the toe?? Bubble Gum, Bubble Gum in a dish, how many pieces do you wish??? Let’s get to what this is really about. Tails failed. “I called tails at the beginning of the game and went with it again in overtime.”

There’s your problem. Everybody knows it’s “Heads or your dead.” That’s coin toss 101. And you’d think a guy with Peyt’s melon would remember it.  The OT rules aren’t the problem. It’s your defense and your decision making that’s the problem.  We’ve seen him throw bad picks at the end of games, this time he made the wrong pick at the beginning of overtime. Heads up, Peyt.
